Platform roadmap from chaos to flow

A platform roadmap should reduce friction in product delivery, not become another queue of infrastructure wishes.

Start with product friction

A platform roadmap is healthy when product teams can recognize their pain in it. If it is only a list of infrastructure wishes, it will compete with delivery instead of improving it.

Map platform capabilities

Group work by capability: deploy, observe, secure, integrate, test, and recover. Each capability should have a user, a service level, and an adoption path.

Capability: deploy
User: product engineer
Promise: production change in under 30 minutes
Adoption: template, docs, example service, office hours

Sequence by flow impact

Prioritize work that removes repeated waits, risky manual steps, and support tickets. A roadmap item that saves every team one hour per week usually beats a niche optimization.
